JV boys' basketball loses 86-47 to Kinnick

The JV boys' basketball team lost 86-47 to Kinnick on Tuesday night. The Knights now have a 2-7 record in Kanto Plains play.

CAJ came out with a lot of energy to start this fast-paced game. The Knights were able to stay reasonably close with the Red Devils in the first quarter, scoring 17 points to Kinnick's 24. Then, the Red Devils made a big run in the second quarter to push the halftime deficit to 26. However, the Knights didn't go through any major scoring droughts in the second half and ended with 47 points in their best offensive game of the year, according to coach Charles Smoker.

Smoker said the Knights did a good job getting the ball past Kinnick's 1-3-1 trapping defense in the first half for several scores. The problems for the team mainly came on defense. The Red Devils easily surpassed the Knights in athleticism and size, and Smoker would have liked to see his team play a bit tougher to minimize those difference.

"I think the one thing we were missing in this game was that strong football instinct that makes us determined not to let the other team get easy shots on us," Smoker said.

Even so, Smoker said that more and more members of the team are earning his trust with their improvement on the court. He added that he "couldn't have asked much more" from the team's performance against a very strong opponent on Tuesday.

Satvik led the Knights with a big scoring game of 25 points. Leif also had 10 and Kenshin and Josiah had four points each.

CAJ's next game is at St. Mary's on Thursday night.
