HS boys' soccer wins both games on Day 1 of Far East pool play

The high school boys' soccer team began its Far East Tournament in Iwakuni with two pool play wins on Wednesday. The Knights beat Zama 3-0 and then beat Daegu 8-0.

These were some recapping thoughts from the perspective of coach Keesh Kawaguchi on the first day of the tournament:

"My main focus right now is to do everything I can to help them stay healthy both mentally and physically all throughout the tournament.

I will continue to provide some kind of normalcy and stability in this unfamiliar environment. My goal this week is that this would become one of the best experiences of their lives.

Special thanks to those who are praying for me and the guys. We are all well and healthy so far."

Against Zama, CAJ got goals from Stephen, Eugene and Enosh. In the Daegu game, Joshua had three goals, and Hikaru, Eugene, Stephen, Jonluke and Enosh all had one goal each. Eugene had three assists, and Hikaru and Joshua both had one assist each.

The Knights will begin the single-elimination playoffs of the tournament on Thursday. They'll play the winner of M.C. Perry and Daegu at 12 p.m. and then either play in the semifinals or the consolation bracket in the afternoon, depending on whether they win or lose their first game.
