HS wrestling competes at "The Beast" Tournament, MS wrestling competes at Yokota

The high school wrestling team competed in "The Beast" Tournament at Kinnick on Saturday, placing 10th out of 13 teams. The middle school wrestling team also competed at Yokota.

Jordan was the lone CAJ wrestler to earn points at Kinnick. He ended up placing first in the 108-pound weight class. His highlight was winning by technical fall against a Yokota rival who beat him last weekend at the CAJ Invitational.

The other high schoolers combined for one match win, which came from Theodore in the 129-pound weight class.

"Each one of these guys is wrestling better each time, so I just tell them to keep their heads up," coach Morris Yaegashi said. "It's always a tough path for first-year wrestlers. What makes the difference is whether or not they can keep wrestling. They all did a good job today."

Full weight class results:
108- Jordan wins by technical fall twice, then wins by fall (
Finishes 1st Place)
115- Peter loses by fall twice
122- Natasha loses by technical fall, then loses by fall
129- Theodore loses by fall, wins by fall, then loses by fall
135- Tai loses by fall twice
141- Leo loses by fall twice
148- Kyong loses by fall twice

The three middle school wrestlers went to Yokota for their own tournament. Xavier was able to place third in his weight class by winning one of his three matches. Jones also came away with one win despite facing mostly more experienced wrestlers.

Jamie was in the middle of a very tight first match with a tie score before injuring his arm. Therefore, he was unable to wrestle in any other matches on Saturday.

The next event for the high school wrestling team is a dual against both Yokota and Kinnick at CAJ next Wednesday. The middle schoolers will have their final competition at St. Mary's on Saturday, February 9.
