MS girls' soccer loses three games at ASIJ

The middle school girls' soccer teams played a combined three games at ASIJ on Saturday. A Team lost by scores of 3-0 to TIS and 15-0 to ASIJ, and B Team lost 5-0 to ASIJ.

Coach Charles Smoker was the coach for all three games and first expressed his thoughts on the TIS game:

"We played well in the first half against TIS, and neither team could score until TIS had a beautiful, unstoppable high shot that gave them a 1-0 lead. CAJ kept on fighting, but TIS had a very stingy defense and they didn't give us many good shots or attacks deep into their goal area:

TIS scored two more goals in the second half. We kept on trying and did what we could do, but we couldn't convert on offense. It was a fun game to watch because the girls played as a team, we lost this game as a team and we celebrated throughout the game when we made good plays. Our goalkeepers Rion and Ellen also played well and made some great saves!"

Smoker added these thoughts on A Team's game against ASIJ:

"We were simply overmatched in soccer talent. ASIJ scored in the first two minutes and kept playing aggressive soccer. The score was 7-0 at halftime and was out of reach, but we hung in there. Adversity is a test of character, and in that way, our girls are winner! Even though things didn't go our way, we played with guts, sportsmanship and we played CAJ soccer.

We can be thankful for the chance to play a game we enjoy with friends we enjoy being with. It was a good day!"

Finally, Smoker added some details on the B Team game:

"They hung with ASIJ for a while, but ASIJ eventually broke through with several goals. It was only 2-0 at halftime, and one of those was an own goal. We tried and tried in the second half, but ASIJ's defense kept us from scoring. ASIJ scored three more goals in the second half, and the final score was 5-0. Keep working hard, CAJ girls!"

A Team now has a 0-7 record this season, and B Team is 0-4-1. Both teams will have matches at ASIJ next Saturday against YIS and St. Maur.
