Wrestling teams compete at CAJ Wrestling Invite

The CAJ high school and middle school wrestling teams competed at the CAJ Wrestling Invite on Saturday.

For the high school, Joe (115 pounds) placed highest for CAJ with a second-place finish by winning two matches and losing his third match. SungWon (180 pounds) also won one match for the Knights.

"Joe is wrestling much better than last week," coach Morris Yaegashi said. "Even though he fell short of winning his weight class today, I feel like he'll get there. We have a lot of match competition left for him to build up to it before Far East."

Yaegashi added, "generally speaking, our guys need a lot more match experience in order to control their butterflies and tweak little mistakers here and there."

Below are the individual weight class tournament results for the high school:
115- Joe places second by winning two matches and losing third match
122- Peter loses both matches
141- Tai loses all three matches
141- Amon loses both matches
180- SungWon loses first match, wins second match and loses third match

For the middle school, SeWon won all four of his matches. Tyler and Xavier also won two matches apiece.

"The middle schoolers showed up today in a really positive way. I told those guys, 'if you keep wrestling, I know your names are going to be up on that wall someday,'" Yaegashi added, referring to the CAJ Wrestling Wall of Honor in the mini gym. "They're a really good bunch. They want to win and they work really hard in practice."

The next wrestling event is a dual meet on Thursday against ASIJ. The event will take place in the CAJ gym.
