HS wrestling falls 42-5 to St. Mary's

CAJ’s wrestling team competed against powerhouse St. Mary’s in a dual meet at St. Mary’s on Tuesday. The Knights lost 42-5 and now have a 1-2 record in duals this season.

Because of where CAJ matched up with St. Mary’s, the Knights had three wrestlers move up one weight class to compete in matches against the Titans.

Ultimately, Jordan wrestling at 115 pounds was the only win for CAJ. He pinned his opponent. The other five Knights wrestlers all lost, with three of them by technical fall and the other two by pin.

Coach Morris Yaegashi keeps emphasizing the value of gaining experience with a team that has very little experience at the varsity level.

"We're taking all of this as experience, and hopefully if we can get these guys coming back next year," Yaegashi said. "That's going to be a big help, because experience, experience, experience is what's important in wrestling. This kind of defeat is what all wrestlers go through before they get to the next level and start winning matches."

Below are the individual weight class match results against Zama:
115- Jordan wins by fall
122- Peter loses by fall
129- Natasha loses by technical fall
135- Tai loses by technical fall
141- Leo loses by fall
148- Kyong loses by technical fall

The next event for the high school wrestling team is "The Beast" tournament this Saturday at Kinnick.
