Varsity boys' basketball falls 45-44 against Yokota

The varsity boys' basketball team lost a nail biter to Yokota by a score of 45-44 on Thursday night at home. CAJ has now ended Kanto Plains play with a 3-8 record.

The Knights spent most of the second half down by just a few points. They were actually down just one point with 10 seconds remaining when they rebounded a missed Panthers free throw and had no timeouts remaining. Enosh made a nice drive and was fouled to get to the free-throw line with two seconds remaining. However, both free throws barely rimmed out and the Panthers were able to secure their win.

Coach Steve Hall pointed to the second quarter as a big reason the Knights couldn't pull out the win. The Panthers had 11 points to the Knights' three in that quarter.

"We had a few turnovers that were self-inflicted," Hall said of the second quarter. "We had two backcourt violations and just weren't being aggressive offensively, even though we were moving the ball pretty well. We had at least one shot-clock violation and a couple other possessions where we used almost all of the clock and didn't get a good shot."

CAJ rediscovered some of its offensive aggression in the second half, as Hall said that Yokota moving to a man-to-man defense was helpful. Hall also praised the Knights' defense in the second half, especially Lukas' performance on one of Yokota's key ball-handlers. Unfortunately, though, the hole CAJ dug in the first half as well as some missed opportunities in crunch time led to another down-to-the-wire Knights loss.

Some key performers for the Knights were Enosh (13 points, five rebounds and three steals), Koji (13 points, five rebounds and three assists), Eugene (11 points and four rebounds) and Ty (eight points and three rebounds).

The Knights will compete at Far East at Camp Humphreys in South Korea from next Thursday to Saturday.
