Field hockey defeats BST 2-1

The field hockey team won 2-1 against BST at Kawasaki on Tuesday night. CAJ now has an undefeated 5-0 record this season.

The Knights were unable to reach the match site on time and the game had to be shortened to 25-minute halves. CAJ also had no warmup time, so coach Victor Eby said the team took awhile to warmup during the game. The Knights also were without goalie Eunmin, so Mina stepped in to play for her.

Despite the cold weather and "slippery astroturf," according to Eby, CAJ was able to grind out a win. BST had two strong players return for this game after missing the previous matchup (a 3-0 CAJ win), so Eby commented that the Knights struggled to mark them well without warmup.

Eby singled out three players for strong play: Rina, for leading the team in defensive saves; Yohana, for having the most crucial defensive saves; and Reeko, for leading the team in shots on goal.

Morgan scored CAJ's first goal about 10 minutes into the game. BST tied the game at one goal each at the end of the first half, and Meg (12th grade) broke the tie with a huge goal with about two minutes left in the game.

CAJ had six short corners to BST's three short corners. Eby commented that he thought Knights outplayed BST in this game.

The Knights' next game will be at ASIJ versus the Mustangs on Saturday.
