HS wrestling team loses 50-9 against Zama

The CAJ high school wrestling team opened its season on Tuesday night at Zama. The Knights lost 50-9 against the Trojans.

"Kyong got his first win ever in his second year wrestling, and it was a 10-0 shutout," coach Morris Yaegashi said. "He wrestled very hard and consistently and was able to put together his hard work from practice."

Unfortunately, CAJ wasn't able to win its other three contested matches.

"A lot of it had to do with it being our first match of the season and not having the competition experience from this season," Yaegashi said. "I told the wrestlers that none of the things they made a mistake on were things they didn't know. It was all stuff they knew. It was just the first match with adrenaline flowing and nervousness."

Below are the individual weight class match results against Zama for which CAJ had an available wrestler:
115- Joe wins by forfeit
122- Peter loses by fall
141- Kyong wins by technical fall (10-0)
148- Tai loses by fall
158- Leo loses by technical fall (0-10)

CAJ had to forfeit to Zama at the 108-, 129-, 135-, 168-, 180- and 215-pound weight classes, as well as the heavyweight class.

The next event for the high school wrestling team is a tournament at Yokota on Saturday.
