HS boys' soccer team wins Far East Division II Tournament

The high school boys' soccer team finished off its season with a 3-1 win over Yokota in the Far Division II Championship Game on Friday. The win gave CAJ its third straight Far East title.

Coach Keesh Kawaguchi wrapped up the Knights' season with the following thoughts:

"It is written, 'by this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.' (John 13:35)

It is easy to like someone in your class, it is easy to like someone you accept, it is easy to like someone you find agreeable. But it is hard to like someone in the same manner if they are not in your grade, if they do certain things differently from the way you do it, or if they disagree with you on many things.

It often creates discourse, friction, animosity, and in the end, a toxic environment. On a team, it is a must that that we quickly establish a harmonious, supportive and unified body. I think we got to do that this year.

I don't care about the outcome of the game, I don't care who scores how many. But I care about the unity and the supportive and encouraging spirit of my players.

This win is a huge confidence boost for me and for my players, no doubt. I pray, however, that this does not turn into pride or self-glorification, especially for the younger players, who made up the majority of the starters this year.

It is an amazing accomplishment for them, and I am very thankful for their hard work and willingness to follow my tough guidance at times. In the end, this is the fruit of their labor.

I love each and every one of my players with the brotherly love of Christ. We were able to build a brotherhood on this team this year, and I am proud of that more than anything. It has been a joy to watch them grow and become more like men and play with the style of play I coach— support, encouragement and unity in love.

Great job on your amazing finish to wrap up the season. I am proud of you, brothers."

Enosh had CAJ's three goals in the final against Yokota. Joshua had two assists and Lukas had one assist. Enosh was also named the Far East Tournament Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot award winner. Enosh, Joshua and Eugene each made the All-Far East team.

The Knights finished the season with an overall record of 9-4-1. They ended the campaign with six consecutive wins.
